Drinking water quality to be investigated

Published 26th December 2014 | Article by Neil Ryder (Farmers Guardian)

Drinking water quality is the focus of an investigation being carried out by Moredun scientists in conjunction with Heriot-Watt University and Scottish Water in Glenlivet.

The project, led by Moredun’s Dr Beth Wells, looks at identifying and controlling cryptosporidium contamination of water in catchment areas used for collection of drinking water. The work looks at sources of contamination, from farm livestock and wildlife, especially deer.

Cryptosporidium is of concern for both animal and human health and is resistant to current chemical treatments used by the water industry.
