is a natural mineral containing carbon (charcoal) and kaolin clay. It functions as an absorbent of liquid, ammonia, mycotoxins
other toxins and pathogens. Certified organic by Skal.
It is used in cattle, goats, pigs and poultry.
Typical daily feeding rates (more details below):-
Calves - 20g whisked in the milk (or see "Diarid Bolus) (for general gut health)
Cows - 100 to 150 g ( improved yield, SSC)
Goats - 10 - 20g / 0.4% of dry matter in the diet for larger high yielding dairy goats. Goat kids 0.3 - 0.5 % of dry matter (mycotoxin binding) reduced ammonia, growth , improved dung & yield)
Sows- 2 - 4 kg per tonne of meal (improved dung & soil. toxin absorber)
Small pigs from birth - 3 -5 kg per tonne of meal (improved dung , FCR, toxin absorber)
Poultry - 2 - 5 kg per tonne of feed (better FCR in broilers and better shell strength in layers, toxin absorber)
USE OF NATURAL CARBON CLAY IN CATTLE, GOATS, PIGS & POULTRY
USEFUL ACTIONS OF NATURAL CARBON CLAY (NCC):-
- Binding of harmful substances.
Natural Carbon Clay binds different toxins. (Carretero, 2002; Thacker, 2013) Toxins are particles of harmful fungi, plants or bacteria that in this case act on the intestines. Often these toxins are cumulative with something else: it shows no signs of poisoning alone, but the presence of toxins leads to a (severe) damage to the immune system of the animal, making it more susceptible to other animal pathogens. Natural Carbon Clay binds both toxins from plants, heavy metals, aflatoxins (mycotoxins), viruses and enterotoxins. (Carretero, 2002;Thacker, 2013; Lipson, 1983b) & Stotzky
- It protects the intestinal cells.
The mucus layer in the intestine is a kind of lining that sits on the intestinal wall to protect the intestinal cells. This mucus layer acts to protect the intestinal cells from pathogens but to allow absorption of nutrients. Natural Carbon Clay helps to maintain this mucus layer. (Carretero, 2002) The health and the growth of the animal are improved. Natural Carbon Clay can be used as a preventive tool against diarrhoea and reduce the severity of diarrhoea. (Song et all, 2011) Bucket rearing of calves can be greatly aided by using Natural Carbon Clay. - Increasing the feed efficiency.
Providing Natural Carbon Clay has a positive influence on the feed efficiency. This is because Natural Carbon Clay has a catalyst role in breaking down carbohydrates. (Shapiro, 1986; Trckova, 2004)
Feeding Rate in CATTLE-
- : To simplify using the powder, we also have Diarid and Kao-CARBON Calf Boluses for use in individual scouring calves as a management aid. The daily feed rate in calves can range from 1% to 4% Natural Carbon Clay of dry matter. This is simplified to 20 grams Natural Carbon Clay per day, whisked into the milk. In a study involving piglets showed that a feed rate of 0.3% clay minerals the coli-excretion decreased. (Song et all, 2011)
From practical experience in dairy farms shows that Natural Carbon Clay exceptional works to keep healthy calves. This is because toxins from bacteria and viruses are bound up in the NCC particles. (Carretero, 2002; Thacker, 2013; Lipson, S.M. Stotzky, g. 1983b) If calves show diarrhoea then it often turned out that cryptosporidium, poor quality milk powder or too little nutrition was the cause.
Adult cattle: In adult cattle the feed rate of Natural Carbon Clay to 1% of dry matter in the concentrate
In practice, this is about 100 to 150 grams per cow per day. It can be put in at the mill or in the mixer wagon on farm.
Side Effects: None. However, it is wise not to use the lower limit of their mineral and vitamin requirements, but to stay at higher levels.

Natural Carbon Clay by GOATS
General Clay has been used for centuries for medicinal purposes. The use of clay ranges from protection of the gastrointestinal tract, as a laxative, as a remedy against diarrhoea to the care of skin related wounds. (Carretero, 2002) Several studies show that clay minerals therefore have a positive effect on animal health. These studies are carried out on goats, dairy cows, calves and pigs. (Carretero, 2002; Trckova, 2004; Thacker, 2013). Currently, as in veterinary science the importance of prevention is emphasized, the use of clay minerals is a very suitable approach. This goes both for terms of animal welfare, as also for economy. A minor investment in time and money safeguards the improvement of health of the animals and a lot of time, effort, antibiotics and money can be saved. Natural Carbon Clay is a feed additive that contains a combination of clay minerals and can be provided to goats. Natural Carbon Clay is GMP-compatible and is E-numbered 559 on the list of E-numbers approved by the European Union.
Research and Applications
The use of Natural Carbon Clay for goats has the following advantages:
1. It binds harmful substances. Natural Carbon Clay binds different toxins. (Carretero, 2002; Thacker, 2013).
2. It protects the intestinal cells. Natural Carbon Clay supports the maintenance of the layer of mucous, whereby the intestines are less affected. (Carretero, 2002) This is, of course, advantageous for health and growth of the animal. Natural Carbon Clay can be used to prevent from diarrhea and to reduce the severity of diarrhea. (Song et all, 2011) Especially when rearing young goats, Natural Carbon Clay is extra effective.
3. It increases feed efficiency. The use of Natural Carbon Clay has a positive influence on the feed efficiency. This is because Natural Carbon Clay has a catalyst function in breaking down carbohydrates. (Shapiro, 1986; Trckova, 2004)
4. Improving the air quality in the barn. Because Natural Carbon Clay binds ammonium (NH4 +) in manure, it can no longer transform into ammonia (the gas form, NH3). This improves the environment and decreases irritation in the respiratory tract of the animals.
Feeding Rate in Young goats . The daily dosage can range from 0.3% to 1.5% Natural Carbon Clay per kilogram of dry matter. A study of piglets showed that a dosage of 0.3% clay minerals decreased the coli-excretion. (Song et all, 2011). Practice on goat farms show that Natural Carbon Clay also performs excellently on the health of young goats, because of binding of toxins from bacteria and viruses. (Carretero, 2002; Thacker, 2013; Lipson, S.M. & Stotzky, g. 1983b).
Feeding Rate in Adult milk goats. For adult milk goats the dosage of Natural Carbon Clay is up to 1.5% per kilogram of dry matter. This is about 10 – 20 grams per goat per day.
Side Effects: None. It is wise not to feed at the lower limit of their mineral and vitamin requirements.

Feeding rate
The daily feeding rate in piglets can range from 0.3% to 0.5% Natural Carbon Clay per kilogram of dry matter i.e 3-5 kg/tonne. At a dosage of 0.3% was to see that the coli-excretion in pigs decreased. (Song et all, 2011) If piglets already have diarrhoea is a higher dosage to 0.5% per kilogram of dry matter recommended.
Fattening pigs and sows: For fattening pigs and sows is the dosage of Natural Carbon Clay 2-4 kilogram per tonne of dry matter.

- Use in POULTRY
At present a final report on testing NCC in broilers is being written up.
Here is a report of the results which in performed tests, as well as in practice, have been experienced when using Natural Carbon Clay in chickens.
When testing, it is important that the parameters of the tested group can be compared to that of a regular group, i.e “treatment” versus “control” groups.
Typical Findings:-
1. Average daily gain is improved
2. Feed Conversion rate is improved. Experience shows that when using Natural Carbon Clay less feed can be used to achieve 2.5kg liveweight. This will reduce the final cost per kg. On a poultry farm, with 100,000 animals consuming 450 tons in 6 weeks. Inclusion of Natural Carbon Clay can save some 12 tons of feed.(12 x 400 EUR/tonne feed = 4,800, 00 euro saving on a group of 100,000 birds). To get a kg of meat in the control group, 1.8 kg feed ius given. Using Natural Carbon Clay this parameter is lower, about 1.75 kg.
3. Another perceptible advantage is that when using Natural Carbon Clay the litter is dry, this also means that the use of feed more effective.
4. Also one needs to look at the number of fallen stock during the test. When using Natural Carbon Clay this parameter is also lower. Another advantage is to reduce the mortality. Mortality of up to 5% of the population during the six weeks is typical. With Natural Carbon Clay this percentage may be reduced by half. This represents an increase of about 2,500 animals on a group of 100,000.
5. The quality and colour of the flesh does not change when using Natural Carbon Clay.
As regards the handling of consumption can suffice the starting feeding rate table for broilers
In existing 0.2% per 100 kg feed
In the growth 0.3% per 100 kg feed
In the final phase 0.5% per 100 kg feed
In Layers
A general perception of poultry farmers who keep laying hens is that when using Natural Carbon Clay the eggs shells are thicker, measurable less breakage risk while the yolk not changes colour and the Omega 3 content increases. (we have data for good improvements in shell thickness, shell density & strength, plus less actual cracked eggs in layers fed NCC)
Another significant measurable result is that the use of Natural Carbon Clay in poultry with any infestation with coccidiosis (also known as: isospora) has a positive preventive effect, because Natural Carbon Clay absorbs and encapsulates, in the gastro-intestinal tract, the eggs of this parasite after which they leave the body with the faeces.
